My name is Maia Stout. I am a 14 year old youth advocate and i have been participating in the youth global friday strike for over 35 weeks now. some may think what ive been doing is wrong. that im deliberately skipping school for something that doesnt exist. but if that was true, why is it our planet's average surface temperature has risen about 1.6 degrees celsius? why is it Greenland has lost an average of 286 billion tons of ice per year between 1993 and 2016? There has always been change in climate throughout history, but this, this significant change is not like any other. NASA confirmed the change in climate is due to human activity and it will not stop until we start caring. As much as i would like to stay in school convincing myself that its all a hoax, we as people have ran out of time. we have no time for our world leaders to act like children. As of the last two years, Donald Trump withdrew from the Paris agreement signed by 195 countries, revived construction of the Keystone XL pipeline connecting Canadas oil sands to Gulf Coast refineries, and increased 600 percent of public land for lease by oil and gas companies. As voices of our generation it is time to rise up, with your help we can create a sign that will change the world!
